Rugged Systems

The term rugged system refers to a whole range of rugged portable computers including rugged server racks, server cases and custom servers often used for military applications. Rugged computer servers are also widely used in commercial environments where an industrial computer is required.

Each system of rackmount servers is built to comply with the user's requirements and specification. This includes performance, environmental considerations and careful thought for both cooling and transportation requirements.

Rugged server systems and enclosures are usually housed in aluminium alloy cases because of their heat dissipation qualities. Other benefits over plastic cases include strength to weight ratio, extraordinary resistance to corrosion, endurance against stress and cracking, sustaining cold temperatures, RFI/EMI Shielding and suitability to special environments. Plastic cases are used for the storage and transportation of rugged workstations and rugged peripheral products such as keyboards, screens, cables etc.

To ensure that all the products Steatite Blazepoint supply are able to work in harsh environments, we have the benefit of our own test laboratories which allows us to test all our equipment, enclosures and systems for Heat, Cold, Humidity, Shock, Vibration and EMC. A further benefit for our customers is our own in-house design team which utilises solid works’ 3D design software. This enables us the freedom to design, prototype and test products at our Oxford facility and to meet standards such as MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461 and a given IP rating.
