Resin Ribbons

Resin-only ribbons consist of a continuous roll of a single resin color and can print up to 3,000 cards. No overlay (O) panel is provided as resin images typically do not require the protection provided by the overlay panel. These ribbons are available for use with FARGO's direct-to-card printers for printing economical one-color cards in as fast as 5 seconds. The variety of available resin colors includes: Black, scratch-off, red, blue, green, white, metallic silver and gold

Dye-sublimation Ribbons

Dye-sublimation ribbons for use in direct-to-card printer/encoders include an overlay panel after each set of three dye-sublimation (and one resin) colors. The overlay is applied over the printed image to prevent fading and wear. (When using dye-sublimation ribbons in the High Definition Printing™ process and when laminating cards, ribbons without an overlay (O) are used.)

The ribbons consist of a series of dye-sublimation panels that alternate according to a specified code.

Cards

Fargo offers two types of high-grade cards specifically designed for dye-sublimation, direct-to-card printing: UltraCard™ and UltraCard III. For High Definition Printing, Fargo offers HDP 100% PVC Cards with an unpolished, matte finish (in addition to UltraCard).

For best possible printer/encoder operation, increased printhead life, and to maintain a valid printhead warranty, Fargo Certified UltraCard brand and HDP Cards should always be used in Fargo printer/encoders.

Film

HDP Film allows for exceptional image clarity and detail, and provides lasting card durability and protection. Each roll of HDP Film is comprised of 1,250 clear transfer panels that are divided by a sensing bar. This sensing bar allows the printer to automatically align each panel with the blank card during image transfer.

As part of the standard High Definition Printing™ process, specially formulated HDP dye-sublimation ribbons print full-color images onto the underside of clear HDP Film. The HDP Film is then transferred to the card through heat and pressure, thereby sealing the image between the film and the card surface. Printing actually goes over-the-edge of the card, creating a professional-quality image with no white borders.

HDP printing is a revolutionary technology. Significant engineering energy was exerted to find the perfect combination of color ribbons, clear HDP Film and card materials that work in harmony to create highly durable and consistently excellent quality prints - even on tough-to-print matte finished cards, proximity cards and smart cards.

HDP700 and HDP820 Card Printer/Encoders require both specialized HDP print ribbons and HDP Film in order to function properly.

Note: HDP Film must be stored at a temperature of 77° F (25° C) or lower for no longer than 1.5 years.

Overlaminates

When the protection of the dye-sublimation ribbon overlay (O) is not enough, a Fargo laminating printer/encoder can automatically transfer PolyGuard or Thermal Transfer Overlaminate onto cards after printing.

Card Cleaning Cartridges

The Fargo range of Card Printer/Encoders feature unique, high- Volume Card Cleaning Cartridge systems with cleaning tape. The two- stage cleaning system cleans both blank cards and cleaning rollers: First, the cartridge's two cleaning rollers remove dust particles from the top and bottom of ablank card as it enters the printer/encoder. Simultaneously, a continuous loop of card cleaning tape strips dust particles from the cleaning rollers.
