PETE GOSS PROVIDES FEEDBACK ON RUGGED LAPTOP FROM BLAZEPOINT
< Back to the News Room

Wed 4 Feb - Thank you Blazepoint

“Grim old day today with a strong northerly wind on the beam and a grey sky that seems to merge with the horizon. Throw in a little rain and you have the grind of the southern ocean that no one ever sees or thinks about. Day after day of effort in a world of sensory deprivation that makes the hours on watch drag. Rather than a white out I would describe it as a southern ocean grey out. Even the birds have disappeared.”

“There is an upside to all this though, a big one, in that we have been chewing off the miles at a fair old rate of knots. Busy for sure with a lot of sail changes through the night but the outcome was a gratifying 154NM towards Melbourne thanks to covering 178NM over the ground in an easterly direction. What’s also very nice is that we have maintained the pace all day today so we are hoping for another good run at tomorrow’s fix. Might not be quite the same for we have an overnight blow on the way with a front that will kick out a big wind shift. Looks like another long night ahead as we work it through.”

“This weather leaves us all very tired and as there is little else to do with everything damp below decks we spend a lot of time in bed reading, dozing when it’s rough and sleeping when circumstances allow. On waking up this morning I looked down past me feet to the chart table and it suddenly struck me that one of the down sides of being reliable is that you can be taken for granted. For there sat our ndura RUGGED® laptop, patiently waiting for its next task. It is the heart of all our communications; I use it to bash out my blogs, it links us with the outside world through the SatC and Began communications systems, we edit and store all our pictures and video. I also run the project from it.”

”It’s not just a laptop though for it has a touch screen, can turn into a tablet and is rugged and water resistant. Something that was put to the test during the earlier on in the voyage when the deck opened up above the chart table and dripped salt water on it all night to no effect. As ever it’s the team behind it that really makes it stand out for it is bespoke. We set out the dream ticket and they made it so today’s big thank you is to all at Blazepoint for being part of the project and there is no way we would ever take you for granted for the laptop is all that we hoped for and more.”
